I could write about how mad, crazy, fickle the weather and the light was. The double rainbow. Lana, the amazing flowergirl, who never, ever stopped – not for one second. The thunder and the lightning.
But what I learnt today was pretty amazing. And deserves a moment of reflection, because it should have been obvious.
I tend to tell folks – clients, friends, whomever – that it is all about the light. Photography, I mean.
And it is, kinda.
But it is more than that. And I know that, and all… But it was driven home to me today, as we shot some portraits in ten minutes while the rain fell and the light was visibly fading.
And what I re-discovered was; light is important. But not as important as how two people feel about each other.
This was Leah and Chris’ wedding day.
And this is just a preview.

Beautiful job telling their story Darin!
What a gorgeous bride… your photos throughout show a lot of subtle personality of the subjects and the surroundings – especially of the bride. That rainbow shot is awesome!
nice work!! great angles!
refreshing work. some really solid compositions.
Amazing clicks.. Beautifully processed .. love your style!
Love the mood in all of these. That last one is spectacular.
Hello, double rainbow? Best thing at a wedding EVER. But I love what you said about light not being as important as how people feel about each other. Heck yes. You did a besutiful job.
Lovely! Beautiful rainbow, twirl, bridal peek and groovy car :-)
Beautiful! I especially love the bride’s portrait, her knowing smile during the ceremony, and that lovely umbrella shot. Loveliness!
Wow, your work is beautiful, and I love your processing. Thank you for sharing these beautiful moments!
I adore your storytelling style. Intimate and emotional.
Beautiful work! Want to see more! x
Awesome. Can’t wait for the rest of this wedding!
I have been kinda knee deep in weddings. Shooting. Editing. Processing. Delivering. Designing albums. I love it. I love every aspect of it.
Well, maybe not culling, but hey.
So, I have got a lot of stuff to post, which is cool. But I haven’t posted anything personal for a while, and you know, one of the greatest joys of my job is that I get to see a lot of my family.
Although I do hear that I spend too much time in front of the computer a LOT.
But I also get to take the girls to school every day. To give little Jamesy cuddles when *he* needs them.
To watch my beautiful family grow up and be amazing.
And I take pictures as they do. Grubby faces. Crying babies. Terrible hula hooping. Cuddles. Unbrushed hair and gap toothed smiles.
Love.

Just stunning. You children are so lucky to have such a talented father who has captured the most beautiful moments of their lives. Really inspiring work.
Driving home from today’s wedding – the first of three in a row – I was flicking between 3RRRFM and SEN on the radio, as is my wont.
But I wasn’t really listening to either station. Over and over, in my head, I was hearing Julie Andrews singing. Yes – THAT Julie Andrews.
“Somewhere in my youth… or childhood
I must have done something good…”
From The Sound of Music, naturally. You have already seen it. If you haven’t – go rent it. You will quickly realise how inspired film-making can transcend cliche – no, really, it is not just a classic, it’s great.
Anyway, the reason that line was going through my head is because I was driving home in this state of tired happy elation, this utter joy that everything had clicked. This was a day that I thought was going to be… tricky. Wrong time of day for photos, the forecast was for showers, all that.
But, somewhere in my youth or childhood, I must have done something good.
Because it was perfect. Craig and Fleur. The light. The day. The… everything.
This is a preview.

Darin, this is amazing! Can’t believe I was there when these were taken, now that I look at these photos again I can still feel the moments!
Darin, the preview photos are absolutely amazing and really capture the fun, creativity and raw emotion we all felt on the day! Seeing each other like this really makes our hearts swell and we can’t thank you enough.
It was our honour that we could share it with you.
Can’t wait to see the rest of the pics!
Lots of love,
Craig & Fleur

Really awesome Darin. There’s so many pretty little bits in this post.
The tilt shift shot with the city in the back is my favorite.
I just came across your site. Beautiful work. Love the simplicity:)
An amazing collection of bride and groom portraits. Love the one of the couple in front of the brick wall. Great work.
Great job. Love the shot of them walking down the steps together.
Wow, I really love that high key portrait of her towards the beginning. Absolutely stunning. And the scale of the image of two them walking together is great as well.
These are stunning, the portraits are just sublime. LOVE!
Amazing photos…and it’s just a preview! So looking forward to seeing more from this wedding!
Fantastic images, Darin.
Beautiful! There’s a lovely calmness about your images, just gorgeous.
This is so awesome. Superb.
Maria and John got married. Their wedding was at Werribee Mansion, on an oh so bright and sunny day. It was an extraordinary mixture of beauty and down to earthiness – punctuated by a tired and wonderful little boy called William.
It was a wedding without pretension, with love and happiness. It was cuddling babies and ironing shirts. Dancing with sons, and fathers. Passionate kisses, and heartfelt hugs.
It was a day that two people got married, and it felt like a celebration of family.
