This was my last wedding for 2010. So, I just wanted to take a moment to thank everybody who has allowed me to be a part of their wedding day this year. I LOVE my job – as I may have mentioned! – and have had and seen some wonderful, moving, thrilling and beautiful moments over the course of this year. Being a wedding photographer always feels to me like a privilege. Other types of photography, commercial work, you get a brief, and you gotta produce, and that’s fine. Wedding photography… well, there is no brief as such, no specific final image to shoot. But you have been chosen to document a very important day purely because that particular couple thinks that your particular style, your eye, your way of seeing will best represent how their wedding really was.
Whoah. so – no stress then!
Not really, no. For a start, provided you can ignore the necessity to GET THE IMAGE, to get the exposure right every time as you switch venues, as the sun goes in and out, to be alert for the unexpected moment, to find the angle, to have the right lens ready – well, apart from all that, WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY IS A WHOLE BUNCH OF FUN!
Excuse the emphasis. I just wanted to get that out there.
Anyway, Naomi and Nick got married just before the year’s end. And they did in a wonderfully relaxed style..jpg)
It never ceases to amaze me how frequently I get offered champagne AS THE VERY FIRST DRINK when I am shooting! Thanks for the thought, but I do try to stay focussed….jpg)

I knew this was going to be a brilliant day to shoot, but seeing Naomi in this fantastic, just amazingly cute wedding dress only confirmed it.

Nick had a haircut for the occasion.
And a shave…
And possibly my favourite touch of the day was… parasols.
And music and laughter and nerves…

And this image maybe sums up the whole feel of the day just perfectly…

When we talked about the formal stuff before the day, I made the point that the St Kilda Botanical Gardens were a great place for the cheesy stuff.
Provided you had sunlight. And flare. And shadows.
Perfect.

And the reception was at the Gables. Just right.

Naomi and Nick. Cheers! And Happy New Year! And I hope your 2011 will be as exciting as mine is going to be.

Gabriella - Beautiful pics Darin, well done.
nick k - Dear Darin,
Many apologies for the tardiness of this comment. The Honeymoon interveneth! You captured the mood and fun of our wedding day brilliantly and with great panache! The photos are absolutely beautiful and we were really chuffed that you managed to capture the eclectic-ness (probably not really a word) of it all. Great stuff. Thanks so much for all of your hard work and your incredible eye for detail. Simple splendid, HURRAH!
